Something I love about many of our native plant species is their ability to go with the flow… of the wind. They move as the wind moves through them. Not only do they move, they also make noise. In the case of Baptisia australis (Blue Wild Indigo), its dry and blackened seed pods actually rattle a bit in strong winds, whereas grasses such as Schizachyrium scoparium (Little Bluestem) almost sound like moving water. This is not the best quality video to demonstrate how these two plants sound and move, but it will give you the idea. Native plant landscapes can be beautiful in sight, sound, smell and touch, and some plants in taste too! Our landscapes are alive for all seasons and senses!
